Audiozone: Rock On
I am a metal head. So much so, last week I took a day off work to recover from a minor punctured lung from the Slipknot concert in Auckland.
So of course, you can imagine my delight when my work mate Simon approached me to rebrand his sideline business selling top quality sound gear (including Rivera, which by a sheer coincidence is the amp brand responsible for the distinctive Slipknot sound.)
His brief? Has to say Rock. All demonic references must be kept very subtle to remain acceptable for Christian buyers (some of his biggest clients).
I’ve long been intregued by the art/science of ambigrams, type devices that can be read in multiple ways, usually by rotating 180 degrees. I spent a considerable amount of time in lectures during uni doodling possible ambigrams, picking words out of random to do. Ever since ‘The Da Vinci Code’ and ‘Angels and Demons’ became staple reading, ambigrams and other cryptic devices have taken on a certain mystic air about them. So, wanting to show off, and create an effective ‘rocking’ logo, here’s what I came up with.
